Mosquito Magnet ®
Manufactered by American Biophysics of Kingstown, Rhode Island, the Mosquito Magnet ® line of mosquito traps is based on over 12 years of mosquito research. The company started out manufacturing surveillance traps used by state and federal mosquito control agencies to monitor mosquito-borne diseases for several years. Building on their success in this market, they proceeded to develop the Mosquito Magnet ® line, the first carbon dioxide-based consumer mosquito trap of its kind.
Since the introduction of the Mosquito Magnet ®, American Biophysics has attained numerous awards, including being ranked the third fastest growing technology company that has yet to go public, by Forbes magazine in February of 2004. They were also ranked the number one fastest growing private company with 25,615% growth in a five-year period, by Inc.
Biting insects, including femal mosquitoes are attracted to humans by the carbon dioxide (CO2) we exhale while we breathe. Since not breathing isn't an optino, the Mosquito Magnet® mimics a human by converting propane from a 20lb tank, to CO2, heat, and moisture. This combination of attractants, lures the mosquitoes to the trap, thinking that they've found a tasty human to bite. As the mosquitoes approach the trap, they get vacuumed into the unit where they dehydrate and die within about 24 hours.
Since the original Mosquito Magnet® was put on the market American Biophysics has come on the market with a full line of mosquito fighting products including the Mosquito Magnet® Defender, Mosquito Magnet® Liberty, Mosquito Magnet® Liberty Plus, and the Mosquito Magnet® Pro.
